If government created jobs and prosperity, the Soviet Union would still be in existence.  The way to prosperity is for government to do only its “core services”, thus keeping taxes low.  This allows businesses to create jobs and citizens to have more money in their pockets to care for their families.  Don’t get me wrong, there is a role for government in building roads, educating kids, and keeping violent felons in prison.  And those things cost money.  But when government goes beyond its core mission in the hopes of taking care of everyone, they end up taking care of no one.”
